The Parish of Saint Monica serves all of Atlantic City. It is the union of the city's previously independent five Catholic churches: Saint Nicholas of Tolentine, Our Lady Star of the Sea, Saint Michael, Holy Spirit, and (Old) Saint Monica. The parish has special ministries to Hispanic, Vietnamese, and black Catholics. The parish supports Our Lady Star of the Sea School, the only Catholic school on Absecon Island. It is staffed by the Sisters of Mercy and lay faculty.
The term parish refers to the territory we serve, the municipal boundaries of Atlantic City, and our corporate identity. Therefore, all property (e.g., real estate, bank accounts) are held in the name of the Parish of Saint Monica. The churches in the parish are still known by their original names. The parish is part of the Diocese of Camden. For detailed information about parish organization, read the document, An Explanation of Parish Governance.
